Your Big Spring Clean Checklist

It might not feel like it right now, but it’s almost springtime! The weather might be a little up and down, but soon the flowers will be opening, the sun will be shining, and you’ll be inviting friends over for barbecues. So now is the perfect time to do some spring cleaning, declutter your house and get everything fresh and sparkling clean for the warmer weather. But if you’d like us, you might feel like you’ve forgotten something, which is why we’ve put together a spring clean checklist you can follow! To make it simple to do we’re going to go room by room.

Living Room

The living room is the place you spend the most time in your home, and where you entertain guests, so this is an important room to get right. Even if you aren’t too fussed about making a good impression, a clean living room has been proven to have some big mental health benefits, so it’s worth doing. A few things to remember:

  • Your sofa needs cleaning as much as your carpets
  • Dust behind, around and on TV units, tables and sideboards
  • More big furniture to dust and vacuum behind it
  • Clean the internal elements of your windows and give the glass a good polish.
  • Deep clean and polish hardwood floors

Kitchen

Kitchens are impossible to keep clean for long, so know that’s not what we’re aiming for here. Instead, your spring clean should be dedicated to cleaning the things you often forget about. For example, now is the perfect time to de-grease your oven, get the inside of your dishwasher sparkling and sanitise the inside of your fridge. Grab a bin bag and throw out everything that’s expired (because we know there are expired cans and spices in there.). Wipe everything down with either anti-bac or de-greaser to finish. A few things to tick off in the kitchen include:

  • De-grease the oven
  • Take everything out of your fridge to wipe down the surfaces.
  • Defrost and clean your freezer
  • Give all of your silverware and crockery a thorough clean
  • Clean the inside of your dishwasher
  • Wipe down the outside of your cupboards

Bedrooms

Granted, we tend to spend most of our time in this room asleep, but that doesn’t mean we should forget it when spring cleaning. Especially because the last thing you want to do when you’re tired at the end of the day is going to bed in a messy room! So here’s some basics to get it back to sparkling:

  • Strip the bed and wash or replace your sheets
  • Wash duvet covers and pillows
  • Vacuum your mattress (a lot of dead skin ends up in there!)
  • Wash your pillows and duvet (either in the washing machine or using a dry cleaner)
  • Dust your blinds or clean your curtains

Bathrooms

This is the one most people are afraid of, but don’t be! The bathroom is probably the area of your house you clean most often, along with your kitchen, so it’s likely in better shape than many other areas of your home But now it’s time to do the deep clean, so to the bathroom, you go. Here your job is to make sure you de-clutter. Throw away the half-empty bottles you’re never going to use again, or that random pile of rubbish that never seems to be taken out. You should also:

  • Scrub the toilet and the sink with bleach
  • Unblock any slow-draining plugs
  • Clean or replace your shower curtain
  • Steam clean the bath
  • Scrub the tile grouting
  • Clean your mirrors
  • Steam clean the floor

Outside Spaces

Of course, your spring clean isn’t just limited to the inside of your house. The outside needs some love too! And since the weather is starting to brighten up, now is the time to pull on your jumper and do the hard bits, so that you can enjoy that summer sun when it arrives. Your outdoor area will look different depending on where you live, but a few things to check are:

  • Cut and edge grass
  • Clean the outside windows and gutters
  • Sort and organise your garage
  • Water plants
  • Wash down outside furniture
  • Declutter any garden toys
  • Rake up and dispose of any debris
